Varava Varava

Varava varava is a song I liked from the first time I saw it in the movie - Vijay sethupathi walk in to the frame was top class. As this was part of the story, I liked it as a background score itself.
Of course Thangame & Neeyum Naanum, is most favorite.

"No, I don't ever give up. I'd have to be dead or completely incapacitated.”

Back in 2011, I heard of the electric car maker Tesla for the first time. One of the first thing I felt was - how dumb was I - to not know of this car maker before. Ever since then, I have always been smitten by Tesla and Elon Musk. Smitten is probably not the right word but inspired by the mission of Tesla:
Electric sports car --> Expensive Electric family car & SUV --> Mass Market electric car.

More than Tesla, Elon Musk's vision is bold and outlandish and that is putting it mildly. However, he has already changed the face of many industries and is likely all set to alter the trajectory of humanity and human race, possibly.

Tesla, SpaceX, Solarcity, HyperLoop - are some of the most impactful entrepreneurial bet of Elon Musk that will play more important role in days to come.

And, like him, as much as I'm excited about the prospect of AI, I'm also fearful of the it. I have always had this fear since I watched Terminator 2 - Judgement day movie.

Although I'm no where in sam league as him in terms of his drive or the work he is doing, but on things I want, as he says at the end of the above video, "I don't ever give up. I'd have to be dead or completely incapacitated."

Oh, and early this february, something incredible happened - SpaceX landed the falcon boosters - synchronized - after sending this heaviest rocket since Moon landing. You thought I was mentioning something else ?

The thing is, SpaceX was about to go bust in 2008-09 (so was Tesla) due to various factors & reasons, including global financial crisis. Yet, in 2018, they were landing two rockets back to earth successfully.

Hmmm....

Endha Pakkam -

The national award winning lyrics of the song - Endha pakkam from Dharmadurai.

Each and every line is meaningful and conveys the feeling well, especially the last stanza.

Endha Pakkam Kaanum Bodhum Vaanam Ondru
Naan Endha Paadhai Yegumbodhum Oorgal Uundu
Nee Thaavi Thaavi Thazhuvum Bodhum Thaaimai Uundu
Naan Nenjankootil Saiyum Bodhum Nermai Unndu
Unn Vaarthaiku Munaal En Vazhvae Unn Pinaal
Unn Madiyil Endhan Kanneer Vazhiyumadi
Uun Sogam Oru Megam Naan Sonaal Adhu Pogum
Unn Kanneer Yendhum Kannam Naan Aavaen

To be a Better Man....

Ever since I heard this song in the early 2000's, I have always took the title of the song to the heart. In a way, the the title of the song is like a north star - something I felt we all can aim/strive for. Personally, that is how I took this song or the title of this song.

During moments that have shaken me ad I felt hurt/pain, more than what I would like to reveal or accept, I really go weak. And, being truthful to myself, I look to acknowledge the moment and strive to be a better man....

Lyrics
Send someone to love me
I need to rest in arms
Keep me safe from harm
In pouring rain
Give me endless summer
Lord I fear the cold
Feel I'm getting old
Before my time
As my soul heals the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord I'm doing all I can
To be a better man
Go easy on my concious
'Cause it's not my fault
I know I've been taught
To take the blame
Rest assured my angels
Will catch my tears
Walk me out of here
I'm in pain
As my soul heals through the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord I'm doing all I can
To be a better man
Once you've found that lover
You're homeward bound
Love is all around
Love is all around
I know some have fallen
On stony ground
But love is all around
Send someone to love me
I need to rest in arms
Keep me safe from harm
In pouring rain
Give me endless summer
Lord I fear the cold
Feel I'm getting old
Before my time
As my soul heals the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord I'm doin' all I can
To be a better man

Malai Neram - Aayarathil Oruvan

In one of my earlier posts,Un-changing, I wrote about how some songs take my mind to a specific time.

Here is one of them - the beginning guitar strings itself take me somewhere else and brings back memories of my alone time during my first stay in Atlanta. Back then, I will just play this song or "Oru Kal Oru kannadi" in my personal machine and do some work/lie down in my comforter. These two songs literally travelled with me to the different apartments I stayed during my stay at Atlanta.

We are dead stars

Who are we ? What is our existence ?

The answer:

WE ARE DEAD STARS looking up at the sky :)

Such a wonderful video that took me back to my basic thoughts about universe, science and time. After a long long time, probably after my 11th or 12th standard, when I was so engrossed by Universe and the space, I have found a video that took my mind away in to a spiral of thoughts.

Such a wonderful video :)

Pressure from all sides

Im in middle of too many things. I didn't intend it that way and had planned, as best as I could, well ahead and made appropriate arrangements as well. However, due to laxity from some people, who don't even exhibit any iota of professionalism and gullibility of me/appa/mummy, all things are boiling in the same time.

The pressures I face are so much and I really wish some support in getting things done. Actually, for the people to do what they ought to do and not take us for ride. Phew....

Beyond that, wish I have some where to express and get some much needed respite too. Alas, guess Im destined to be a loser on this front for life.

Nature doesn't need people. People need nature.

A very good campaign on nature and how humans are abusing it - I hope we wake up now and realize the responsibility each of us are having towards mother nature.

Tamizhan !!

Few years back, I was seeing a BBC documentary which found the closest DNA resemblance of ancient Human being with the people living near Theni Madurai.

While Kumari kandam is referenced in ancient tamil literatures, currently we don't have any literature or scientific research (why is India or TN not doing any research on this ? ) that can confirm this once and for all.

Whatever be it, I'm happy and thankful to have born in to a culture and language that is one of the oldest, if not THE oldest in the world.

Allergies and diseases - Thanks to GMO food

What are GMO [Genetically modified organisms] or GE [Genetically engineered food] ?

In an earlier blog, Organic and Organic only, I attempted to explain the fundamental ways in which genetic modification or engineering of seeds are done by the so called food companies, who are in reality, chemical companies, and their actual motive. Contrary to the perception they create about the need for GM or GE food, it is not about feeding the world but driving the profits for few misguided bio-technology companies.

Please watch the below Ted video by Robyn o Brien - a mother and a food activist, whose plea about the state of food economics in US, along with the persuasion in the form of facts and evidence from around the world makes this one of the best videos on this important subject. We must address this malaise at this stage and prevent the same from happening in other parts of the world too.

While I agree correlation between increasing allergies and health issues with the increased use of GE technology in farming doesn't mean causation, it will be foolish to turn a blind eye to the converging nature of evidence and observations.

A New World Order

I have been telling some of my friends and peers recently that the new world order is taking place and the power, influence and control of the world that US exerts would be distributed, rightly so, to other rising powers (parts) of the world in the next few decades. US has enjoyed the influence since world war 2 and with the acceptance of dollar as international trade currency, kick-started the dollar craze across the world. The dollar craze led to many economical changes, good and bad, across the world and none so spectacular than the valuation of the US dollar for all these years. This high valuation of dollar led to the rapid rise of the US economy since the world war 2 and gave US extra-ordinary leverage across the world, economically and politically. While the use of dollar as international currency had some minuscule disadvantages for the US in resulting in rising cost of living due to appreciation of dollar, the economical advantage led US to strengthen an already powerful army it possessed during the world war 2 days to insane levels of military might as of today.

Things are beginning to change now. The rise of China as economic powerhouse with it's dogged determination and discipline has resulted in early signs of the shift in world order - one super power to multiple powers. Alongside china, India, Russia, Brazil and South Africa, popularly known as BRICS, are also exhibiting greater economic progress and in some cases, much better management of economic and social indicators than US, which allowed market economics the free-hand. While there is nothing wrong in market economics as it's objectives are to maximize the Societal surplus ( Consumer surplus + Producer surplus), sometimes, very conspicuously as well, it has led to situations only where producer surplus is maximized. As societal surplus is just summation of consumer and producer surplus, it doesn't effectively capture whose surplus is maximized as long as societal surplus is greater. However, that is not the right way to go about it coz if Consumer's (common people) surplus is zero and Producer's (Corporations, in general, business) surplus is 100, it leads to lopsided growth.

I had deviated from topic of changing world order to talk little bit about the economics concepts I studied recently coz I see the change in world order in this spectrum as well - excessive producer surplus to more equal consumer and producer surplus. I know very little of economics but I believe that when in doubt, always implement policies that maximizes Consumer surplus first, then look at producer surplus. Again, this is not to say the policies being implemented in the rising powers or the rest of the world is much better at maximizing the consumer surplus (Or) the US and some other market based western economies are solely focused on market based principles only - far from it. However, such a change is required and will result in new world order that is equal as well. Equality or the lack of it in the world is a different topic that I will write about in future.

A very good speech by President Obama and his pragmatic foreign policy outline which takes in to account the developments of the world:
