Naan Veezhven Endru Ninaithayo | நான் வீழ்வேனென்று நினைத் தாயோ?

One of the lines of poet Bharathi that always acts a source of courage and valor for me is - நான் வீழ்வேனென்று நினைத் தாயோ? This line is part of the poem Yoga Siddhi and under title Varam kettal (thanks quora for the information) and in the 4th stanza - one of the most well known verses of Bharathi's poems.

தேடிச்சோறு நிதந் தின்று - பல

சின்னஞ் சிறு கதைகள் பேசி - மனம்

வாடித் துன்பமிக வுழன்று - பிறர்

வாடப் பலசெயல்கள் செய்து - நரை

கூடி கிழப்பருவமெய்தி - கொடும்

கூற்றுக் கிரையென பின்மாயும் - பல

வேடிக்கை மனிதரை போலே - நான்

வீழ்வே னென்று நினைத் தாயோ?

I have always been impressed by the defiance in the last line of this stanza - naan veezhven endru ninaithayo? I have drawn strength from these lines since 2004/06 times. Even in 2009, I have posted these lines in my facebook feed as an act of defiance to project a face that I'm not down - despite the tumultuous times. I need these lines now more than ever before with what's happening and also job-wise, it is always good to have the rightful defiance to back oneself - one's true-self.

The above lines became more popular outside the literary world thanks to the climax of the Mahanadhi movie, where Kamal himself will narrate these lines in his own inimitable voice. 
And in an earlier scene (image below), the character played by Kamal would raise a pertinent question - "Oru nallavanuku kedaika vendiya ellam mariyathayum, ketavanuku kedachidudhe. Adhu eppadi ?" Andha mariyadhai and raja vazkai kudukravanga than yosikanum, with an angle of truth, righteousness and nyayam. Nyayame poi ya nyayathukagavum and unmaikagavum eppadi porada mudiyum - only we humans can do.

The scene/poem ends when Kamal character and the poet Bharathi asks - much like "requests" or rather more like demands from amma/god that she fulfills his righteous wishes.

One of the soul stirring & inspiring poem by Mahakavi Bharathi. I have read this before as part of prose but ever since I heard this rendition in the anjathe movie in 2009, I was hooked to it at a different level. It always inspires me and I need the values and virtues of this poem now than ever before.

To listen to this poem in the below voice is giving oneself the boost they need to face the world.

அச்சம் தவிர்   -   நய்யப் புடை

மானம் போற்று  -  ரவுத்திரம் பழகு

Hurt - in it's most basic form

Hurt - in it's most basic form | வலி

In my last blog post  [dated] 09-June -2018, I wrote about - நட்ட கல்லும் பேசுமோ? நாதன் உள்ளிருக்கையில். Probably around this very day, something was thought, completely ignoring/discarding உள்ளிருக்கும் நாதன் but with the abattham that it was done only for him. At best or worst, it can be considered an euthanasia.

Having said that, very rarely do we come across scenes that convey hurt in it's raw form.

நான் யாரு மேல எல்லாம் அன்பு நெறய வைக்கிறேனோ, அவங்க எல்லாம் என் நெஞ்சிலே எட்டி உதைக்கிறாங்க.

When a mother forsakes you, one has nothing more left. Knowing this, I gave up many times so that another amma won't even be required to be in a position to forsake her own. But unmaiye illa nu podhu.....onnume illai

Still, உள்ளிருக்கும் நாதன் was forsaked.

I heard part of this tamil poem and googled to find out more about it. It is an interesting Tamil poem by a siddhar and is interpreted/quoted in equal terms by both believers and non-believers in the concept of god.


Believers in concept of rationality seem to interpret the highlighted line as -

"நட்ட கல்லை தெய்வம் என்று நாலு புட்பம் சாத்தியே
சுற்றி வந்து மொணமொணன்று சொல்லுமந்திரம்ஏதடா?
நட்ட கல்லும் பேசுமோ? நாதன் உள்ளிருக்கையில்
சுட்ட சட்டி சட்டுவம் கறிச்சுவை அறியுமோ?"

Believers in concept of god seem to interpret the highlighted line as -

"நட்ட கல்லும் பேசும்; ஓ(ம்); நாதன், உள்ளிருக்கையில்"

This above god based interpretation was told by the great Tamil language & life/culture proponent, Maramalai Adigalar.

Anyways....

My question is, when Nathan is inside, why do people search for him outside, in temples or thru slogams etc ? Also, why don't people even believe in him/Manasatchi/heart/intuition and act ?

Varava varava is a song I liked from the first time I saw it in the movie - Vijay sethupathi walk in to the frame was top class. As this was part of the story, I liked it as a background score itself.

Of course Thangame & Neeyum Naanum, is most favorite.

Back in 2011, I heard of the electric car maker Tesla for the first time. One of the first thing I felt was - how dumb was I - to not know of this car maker before. Ever since then, I have always been smitten by Tesla and Elon Musk. Smitten is probably not the right word but inspired by the mission of Tesla:
Electric sports car --> Expensive Electric family car & SUV --> Mass Market electric car.

More than Tesla, Elon Musk's vision is bold and outlandish and that is putting it mildly. However, he has already changed the face of many industries and is likely all set to alter the trajectory of humanity and human race, possibly. 

Tesla, SpaceX, Solarcity, HyperLoop - are some of the most impactful entrepreneurial bet of Elon Musk that will play more important role in days to come. 

And, like him, as much as I'm excited about the prospect of AI, I'm also fearful of the it. I have always had this fear since I watched Terminator 2 - Judgement day movie.

Although I'm no where in sam league as him in terms of his drive or the work he is doing, but on things I want, as he says at the end of the above video, "I don't ever give up. I'd have to be dead or completely incapacitated."

Oh, and early this february, something incredible happened - SpaceX landed the falcon boosters - synchronized - after sending this heaviest rocket since Moon landing. You thought I was mentioning something else ? 

The thing is, SpaceX was about to go bust in 2008-09 (so was Tesla) due to various factors & reasons, including global financial crisis. Yet, in 2018, they were landing two rockets back to earth successfully. 

Hmmm....

Each and every line is meaningful and conveys the feeling well, especially the last stanza.

To be a Better Man....

Ever since I heard this song in the early 2000's, I have always took the title of the song to the heart. In a way, the the title of the song is like a north star - something I felt we all can aim/strive for. Personally, that is how I took this song or the title of this song.

During moments that have shaken me ad I felt hurt/pain, more than what I would like to reveal or accept, I really go weak. And, being truthful to myself, I look to acknowledge the moment and strive to be a better man....

Malai Neram - Aayarathil Oruvan

In one of my earlier posts,Un-changing, I wrote about how some songs take my mind to a specific time.

Here is one of them - the beginning guitar strings itself take me somewhere else and brings back memories of my alone time during my first stay in Atlanta. Back then, I will just play this song or "Oru Kal Oru kannadi" in my personal machine and do some work/lie down in my comforter. These two songs literally travelled with me to the different apartments I stayed during my stay at Atlanta.

Who are we ? What is our existence ?

Such a wonderful video that took me back to my basic thoughts about universe, science and time. After a long long time, probably after my 11th or 12th standard, when I was so engrossed by Universe and the space, I have found a video that took my mind away in to a spiral of thoughts.
